Department of Medical Laboratory Technician is one of new Departments established in Debre Berhan health Science College. The Department started training of students at Diploma level as of September 2017.
To these time the Department have trained Medical Laboratory Professionals who were assigned by the Regional health Bureau to feel the country’s demand of qualified laboratory professionals to strengthening the health laboratory services.
To respond to the rapid change in the field of laboratory medicine, rising of emerging/re-emerging diseases and non-communicable diseases. Currently, the Department is preparing to run undergraduate (BSc) (in collaboration with Debre Berhan university) programs. The department staff has been actively involved in conducting problem solving research’s, community service activities such as the community based training program, the team training program and other field activities bedside giving training for trainees.
As a medical laboratory technologist, you will analyze blood, urine, tissue or other body specimens - these test results play an important role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Earning a degree in clinical laboratory science opens doors to a wide variety of career opportunities.
As today's society is becoming more vulnerable to a wide range of diseases and illnesses, the need for reliable laboratory tests are now of almost importance. With the help of laboratory tests, many health-related problems can be promptly detected, diagnosed and efficiently treated. A medical lab technician works in a medical laboratory in performing microscopic, immunologic, hematological, chemical and bacteriological diagnostic analysis on body fluids. These body fluids usually include sputum, urine, stool, blood, pericardial fluid, peritoneal fluid, synovial fluid and cerebrospinal fluid. A laboratory technician can be employed in numerous offices such as biomedical facilities, doctor’s offices, hospitals, pharmaceutical firms, schools and universities, and clinical and reference labs.
To this ending the college has given well integrated learning and teaching processes both in theoretical and practical, has enough laboratory equipment
